Innsbruck 1964 Winter Olympics
Innsbruck, Austria. Snow shortage forced the army to haul winter to the Tyrol
Overview
A warm winter forced the Austrian army to cart ice and thousands of cubic meters of snow down from the mountains. Luge debuted on the new Igls track, and computers were used for results for the first time at a Winter Games. Soviet pair Lyudmila Belousova and Oleg Protopopov won the first of two straight figure skating titles.
