Athens 1906 Intercalated Games
Athens, Greece. The unofficial intercalated Games that steadied the movement
Overview
Greece staged interim Games midway through an Olympiad to shore up the young movement after the weak 1900 and 1904 editions. The 1906 festival introduced the ceremonial parade of nations behind flags. The IOC later struck the Games from official records, yet competitors and historians credit them with saving the Olympic idea.
