Overview

About 3,600 athletes aged 14 to 18 from 204 nations competed in the inaugural Youth Games, with equal numbers of young men and women. Alongside sport, the program mixed culture and education workshops, the vision of IOC president Jacques Rogge, who created the concept. The festival proved young athletes could share a global village of their own.
