Overview
Free of boycotts for the first time since 1972, the Games welcomed a reunified Germany, a Unified Team of former Soviet republics and a South Africa newly freed from apartheid. The American basketball Dream Team, with Jordan, Magic Johnson and Bird, won by an average of 44 points. The rebuilt waterfront and Montjuic venues became a model of Olympic urban transformation.
