Innsbruck 1976 Winter Olympics
Innsbruck, Austria. Denver rejected the Games, so Innsbruck hosted again
Overview
Colorado voters refused public funding in 1972, forcing Denver to return the 1976 Games, and Innsbruck stepped in just 12 years after 1964. Franz Klammer threw himself down the mountain to win the downhill by 0.33 seconds, one of the great Olympic ski runs. Rosi Mittermaier of West Germany nearly swept the women alpine events with two golds and a silver.
