Inter-Allied Games 1919
Paris, France. The sporting festival of the victorious Allied armies
Overview
General John Pershing backed an 18 nation military sports festival at a new Pershing Stadium in Vincennes, staged weeks after the Treaty of Versailles. Roughly 1,500 soldier athletes competed, with the United States team of collegiate stars dominating. The stadium was later gifted to France. The games bridged the Olympic silence between Berlin 1916 and Antwerp 1920 and kept international sport alive.
