Olympic Manifesto of 1892
Paris, France. Coubertin first proposed reviving the Olympic Games
Overview
On 25 November 1892 Coubertin closed a speech at the Sorbonne by proposing the reestablishment of the Olympic Games, two years before the congress that created the IOC. The speech drew polite applause and little notice at the time, yet it seeded the Sorbonne Congress of 1894. His handwritten manifesto sold at auction in 2019 for 8.8 million dollars.
