Turin, Italy. Italian winter returned after half a century
Overview
Some 80 nations competed in Turin, the first Italian city to host a Winter Games since Cortina in 1956. Biathlon mass start debuted, Ahn Hyun Soo of South Korea won three short track golds, and Shizuka Arakawa took the ladies figure skating title. Giorgio Di Centa of Italy closed the Games by winning the 50 kilometer cross country on home snow.
