Berlin, Germany. Jesse Owens won four golds as the torch relay and television arrived

Overview

Nazi Germany staged the Games as propaganda, filling the new 100,000 seat Olympiastadion. African American Jesse Owens won four athletics golds, undermining claims of Aryan supremacy. The first torch relay ran from Olympia to Berlin, and parts of the competition were televised live to viewing halls in the city, a first. Leni Riefenstahl filmed the Games in the documentary Olympia.
