Los Angeles, USA. Depression era Games that built the first Olympic Village

Overview

The Great Depression cut participation to about 37 nations, yet the Games pioneered the first real Olympic Village, a cluster of cabins for male athletes. Track star Babe Didrikson won the javelin and 80 meter hurdles and took silver in the high jump. The victory podium was used for the first time, and Japan won swimming events with an ease that stunned the swimming world.
