Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics
Sochi, Russia. The most expensive Games ever staged
Overview
Russia spent an estimated 51 billion dollars transforming a Black Sea resort into an Olympic park, a cost record for any Games. Some 88 nations attended. Later investigations exposed a state directed doping program, leading to mass disqualifications and to Russian athletes competing as neutrals for years afterward. Viktor Ahn of Russia won three short track golds.
